In a move that underscores intensifying political tensions within the U.S. justice system, the Trump administration has dismissed four Justice Department prosecutors who had been involved in cases targeting anti-abortion activists. The decision, announced Tuesday, centers on allegations that the Biden administration misused the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act—a law originally enacted to safeguard abortion clinics from obstruction, harassment, and threats.
The terminations mark the latest in a broader pattern of personnel changes affecting officials tied to cases that have drawn criticism from conservative circles or are viewed as misaligned with President Donald Trump’s policy agenda. Notably, the firings occurred just ahead of the anticipated release of a report alleging that the Biden administration engaged in politically biased prosecutions under the FACE Act.
Todd Blanche, serving as acting attorney general, framed the decision as part of a wider effort to restore impartiality within the department. In a sharply worded statement, he rejected what he described as a “two-tiered system of justice,” emphasizing that prosecutorial decisions must not be influenced by ideological considerations. Blanche further asserted that practices he characterized as “weaponization” under the previous administration would be dismantled as part of a renewed commitment to fairness and institutional integrity within federal law enforcement.
